Jeannie Day
Business Manager

Jeannie has been in partnership with Joanne for around 30 yrs running the Joanna school of dance. Jeannie at present works from home and works on the finance side of the business. This includes: payments, expenses, keeping track of spending and maintenance and all that entails.  She is also responsible for the tax return each year, for annual subs and CRB updates plus other governing bodies that we need to keep in place.

Jeannie also makes costumes for Festival children when needed and organises and makes  costumes etc for our shows. Out side of this jeannie is wardrobe mistress for Uk Productions when they are putting on their annual pantomimes. Up until this year Jeannie has been the organiser for the very successful Guildford Festival of Dance with entries for some 30 plus schools.

Jill Redford

Jill was an Arts Awards Ballet champion at the age of twelve and then went on to train at Bird College of Performing Arts, gaining her teaching qualifications and Advanced RAD. She was lucky to have an all-round training in dance, singing and acting from some wonderful teachers – Pauline Bird, Rosemary Woodd, Pat Izen, Jenny Taylor, Doreen Bird, Gwen Carter, Susan Towns and Marjorie Field. Jill also studied at The Place with Matt Mattox. After a professional career on stage and TV in the UK and abroad, working in the theatre with such stars as Peter Butterworth, Bernie Clifton, John Hanson and Lenny Henry, Jill decided to teach, owning her own school in Sussex. After her first son was born Jill handed the school over to Kay Ball who has run the school successfully for over thirty years. Jill works as a freelance teacher and choreographer as well as an adjudicator and performer. She has choreographed for the Edinburgh Festival, for fashion shows and many musicals. For several years Jill taught GCSE Dance for Central Sussex College and was appointed as a GCSE Moderator. Jill Redford is an Equity member, an examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and an adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals, which includes being a member of the All England Dance panel. Many of her ex pupils are now studying at Theatre Colleges or are working in the business. Jill teaches DDE units 2 and 4 for – The Joanna School of Dance in Guildford Surrey Dance Teachers Inc in Lingfield Surrey, Deborah Lamb Theatre School in Uckfield Sussex Betty Wivell School in Norbury London.

Hannah
Drama & Singing Teacher

Hannah began learning classical piano and singing at the age of 5 before taking up the oboe at 8. She achieved her grade 8 singing at 14. Whilst at school she took part in various music tours to Belgium, Barcellona, Austria, London and Switzerland, whilst also singing with the National Youth Choir and Halle Youth Choir. She performed in 3 BBC Proms and multiple BBC Daily Service Recordings. She attended the Junior Royal Northern College of Music for 3 years studying singing, piano, theory, composition, harmonisation and group choral. During this time she also completed her grade 7 piano and grade 8 oboe.

She recently graduated from Performance Preparation Academy with a First Class BA(Hons) in Acting for Stage and Screen. Whilst at PPA she completed her ATCL Teachers Qualification with Distinction and also began learning flute and piccolo. Hannah has been teaching singing, piano and music theory for 8 years and has worked at JSD for 3 years, successfully entering pupils in music exams of various levels in all subjects.

We take pride in the discipline and training of our pupils, which in turn encourages their confidence in themselves.

We aim to help pupils gain experience in both stage and classical dance, to experience the pleasure of singing, music and drama, learning how to express themselves and build confidence.

We currently train young people in Tap, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, strength & Flexibility, Street Dance, Voice Training, Piano, Lamda Drama and Performing Arts

JSD is an approved Dance Centre with ISTD and trains the next generation of Dance Teachers for the DDE (Diploma in Dance Education) in Tap, Modern & Classical Ballet.

Exams

The examining board we use for dance is theImperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), who are members of the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET).

Our examining boards for drama, singing and music are The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and ABRSM, the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music.
